Title: | Rx J0648.0-4418: the Fastest-Spinning White Dwarf | Authors: | MEREGHETTI, Sandro | Issue Date: | 2015 | Volume: | Proceedings of the MG13 Meeting on General Relativity, Astrophysics, and Relativistic Field Theories | Editors: | Rosquist, Kjell; Jantzen, Robert T.; Ruffini, Remo | First Page: | 2459 | Abstract: | HD 49798/RX J0648.0-4418 is a post common-envelope X-ray binary composed of a hot subdwarf and one of the most massive white dwarfs with a dynamical mass measurement (1.28±0.05 M☉). This white dwarf, with a spin period of 13.2 s, rotates more than twice faster than the white dwarf in the cataclysmic variable AE Aqr. The current properties of these two binaries, as well as their future evolution, are quite different, despite both contain a fast-spinning white dwarf. HD 49798/RX J0648.0-4418 could be the progenitor of either a Type Ia supernova or of a non-recycled millisecond pulsars. <P /> | Conference Name: | Thirteenth Marcel Grossmann Meeting: On Recent Developments in Theoretical and Experimental General Relativity, Astrophysics and Relativistic Field Theories | Conference Place: | Stockholm University, Sweden | Conference Date: | 1-7 July, 2012 | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12386/23669 | URL: | https://www.worldscientific.com/doi/abs/10.1142/9789814623995_0469 | ISBN: | 978-981-4612-14-2 | DOI: | 10.1142/9789814623995_0469 | Bibcode ADS: | 2015mgm..conf.2459M | Fulltext: | open |
