Title: | The Gaia-ESO Survey Astrophysical Calibration | Authors: | PANCINO, ELENA Gaia-ESO Survey Consortium |
Issue Date: | 2016 | Volume: | Calibration and standardization of missions and large surveys in astronomy and astrophysics | Editors: | Deustua, S.; Allam, S.; Tucker, D.; Smith, J. A. | Series: | ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY OF THE PACIFIC CONFERENCE SERIES | Number: | 503 | First Page: | 275 | Abstract: | The Gaia-ESO Survey is a wide field spectroscopic survey recently started with the FLAMES@VLT in Cerro Paranal, Chile. It will produce radial velocities more accurate than Gaia's for faint stars (down to V ≃ 18), and astrophysical parameters and abundances for approximately 100 000 stars, belonging to all Galactic populations. 300 nights were assigned in 5 years (with the last year subject to approval after a detailed report). In particular, to connect with other ongoing and planned spectroscopic surveys, a detailed calibration program — for the astrophysical parameters derivation — is planned, including well known clusters, Gaia benchmark stars, and special equatorial calibration fields designed for wide field/multifiber spectrographs. | Conference Name: | Calibration and standardization of missions and large surveys in astronomy and astrophysics | Conference Place: | Batavia, Illinois (USA) | Conference Date: | 16-19 April, 2012 | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12386/24738 | URL: | http://aspbooks.org/a/volumes/article_details/?paper_id=37789 | ISSN: | 1050-3390 | ISBN: | 978-1-58381-890-9 | Bibcode ADS: | 2016ASPC..503..275P | Fulltext: | open |
