Title: | The distance to NGC 5253 and the absolute magnitude at maximum of SN 1972E | Authors: | DELLA VALLE, Massimo Melnick, J. |
Issue Date: | 1992 | Journal: | ASTRONOMY & ASTROPHYSICS | Number: | 257 | First Page: | L1 | Abstract: | We have determined the distance to NGC 5253 using the relationship between velocity dispersion and the integrated Hβ luminosity for giant HII regions. We find a distance of 4.6 +/- 0.7 Mpc, or a true distance modulus (m - M)_0_ = 28.31 +/- 0.30. This implies an absolute magnitude at maximum of M_B_ = - 19.90 +/- 0.35 for the extensively studied type Ia supernova SN1972E in NGC 5253. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12386/32658 | URL: | https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1992A%26A...257L...1D/abstract | ISSN: | 0004-6361 | Bibcode ADS: | 1992A&A...257L...1D | Fulltext: | open |
