Title: | High performance Mass market GNSS receiver muLTi standard ready for mArket - Advanced Antenna Core Technology Report | Authors: | NALDI, Giovanni MONTEBUGNOLI, STELIO Iera, Christian Moriggia, Lorenzo |
Issue Date: | 2010 | Number: | WP3 - D3.6 | Abstract: | This HIMALAYA Deliverable, “D3.6 Advanced Antenna Core Technology Report”, is focused on the preliminary study of an antenna design solution that can provide multi-frequency functionality to mobile phones, with the intent of reducing costs and improving performances with respect to the existing systems. The first chapter of this document presents an introduction on the general characteristics and requirements for the better antenna implementation. In the second chapter there is an overview of the most used antennas in modern cellular phones, with good and bad qualities for each of them. The third chapter considers the most important problems connected to the combined antennas for mobile phones; in other words it’s about all the problems that arise from the integration of several services in a very small device. In the fourth chapter it is reported a benchmarking study that compares the performances of some GPS antennas working on commercial handsets. This activity is fully described in a document of Sagem Wireless. The results that came out of this study are useful to benchmark the choices for the Himalaya receiver. The fifth chapter provides a preliminary multi-frequency antenna design study intended for a mobile device with GPS, GSM1800, UMTS and WLAN/Bluetooth functionalities. In the sixth chapter it is presented a general overview on beam-forming methods applicable to devices equipped with an array of receivers. The conclusions are reported in the seventh chapter. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12386/34603 | Fulltext: | open |
