The optical position, the optical lightcurve, and two early-stage flux calibrated spectra are reported. The available data support the binary nature of Nova Muscae 1991. Similarity with A0620-00 in its early evolutionary stages suggests that Nova Muscae 1991 is a possible black hole candidate.STAMPAenThe early optical evolution of X-ray nova MUSCAE 1991Articlehttps://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1991A%26A...247L..33D/abstract1991A&A...247L..33DFIS/05 - ASTRONOMIA E ASTROFISICA
