Amici and used at the old observatory of Florence (the Specola). Amici built for the Specola the renowned 28-cm Amici I refractor, later transferred to the new observatory of Arcetri, and sold the institute a 4-inch refractor, apparently never used in Arcetri. After Amici's death, the heirs made a few attempts to sell the instruments found in his workshop. Among them the 24-cm Amici II refractor, which was bought for the Observatory in 1875. Its purchase was adviced by the astronomer G.V. Schiaparelli, which thought of the telescope more as a memorial to the work of Amici and his successor G.B.
