SERENA science Performance Report for ISRR
Date Issued
2007
Author(s)
Abstract
This document is requested by the ESA Science Working Team. It is a presentation of the
SERENA scientific requirements and performances. It describes the current assessed performance
of the instrument according to its scientific requirements and proves by analysis or test that the
current proposed design will meet the science requirements. It is submitted on regular basis at every
project review, that is, Instrument Science Requirement Review (ISRR), Instrument Preliminary
Design Review (IPDR), Electric/Structural/Thermal Model (EM/STM), Instrument Critical Design
Review (ICDR), Instrument Qualification Review (IQR) and Flight Model (FM). During the
development of the instrument this document will support the monitoring of the performance
according to the latest design proved and validated by further analysis and calibration results
(Detectors Units, Pre-Calibration and, finally Ground Calibration). The definition of the scientific
performance requirements follows the BepiColombo AO [AD 2] and the agreed values are given in
the SERENA NPA-IS EID-B [AD 3].
The SWT led by the BC Project Scientist will support the SERENA Project Team in all
scientifically relevant questions and design options.
In Section 2 the instrument scientific objectives are described together with the scientific
requirements. In Section 3 the instrument parameters of each SERENA unit derived from the
scientific requirement are defined. In Section 4, the list of actual instrument parameters, the design
ranges and the methods of verification are given. In Section 5 the calibration tests are summarized.
