Abstract
On 26 September 2019, the 150th anniversary of the first inauguration of the Ob- servatory was celebrated at the Teatro del Cielo of the INAF- Arcetri Astrophysical Obser- vatory. This article reconstructs the highlights of the event, which was attended by numerous representatives of political and scientific institutions. Following the welcome addresses of the institutional figures, the event focused on the inaugural speech given in 1869 by the Observa- tory’s founder and first director, Giovan Battista Donati.
