Abstract
This document presents the simulated performance of the LINC-NIRVANA Layer-Oriented Multiple Field of View wavefront sensors. LOST is a numerical simulation code developed to analyze the performance of the Multi–Conjugate Adaptive Optics modules following the Layer–Oriented approach. The first version of the code, then called Layer–Oriented Simulation Tool (LOST)[Arcidiacono et al, 2004], was developed to introduce the LO approach. This first version has been upgraded to analyze the performance of the LO wave-front sensor arm of the Multi–conjugate Adaptive optics Demonstrator (MAD) and, finally, of the LINC–NIRVANA Layer–Oriented multiple field of view interferometric systems.
We developed a simulation code able to reproduce the main characteristics of an MCAO LO module, such as the two LINC–NIRVANA arms. LOST computes the atmospheric layers in terms of phase screens, then propagates the phase delays introduced on the natural guide stars wave fronts in the geometrical optics approximation. These wave-fronts are combined in the optical or numerical way, considering the effects of the wave-front sensors on the measurements in terms of phase–noise.
