Abstract
This report describe the main results of the WP2200 of the NHXM activities in the framework of the ASI contract.
The main goals are:
1) Optimization studies of geometry and chemical composition of NHXM active and passive shielding; 2) Background count rate and spectra evaluation as a function of NHXM design and background sources (photonic and hadronic).
In order to fully characterize the LEO radiation effects on the shielding and detector response, we developed 4 models, of increasing geometrical complexity from the simplified slab structure , through the box shaped shielding surrounding the detector plane, to a more realistic complex geometry that take into account all the hardware components of the detectors. We call this models: slab, box, NHXM001, NHXM003 geometries.
In Section 2 we describe the source of background in the LEO orbit, in Section 3 we present the slab geometry and the main results of the performed simulation, in Section 4 we report the box geometry and main results. Section 5 and Section 6 contains respectively the main results of NHXM001 and NHXM003 geometry.
