Title: | Gamma-Ray Bursts Polarization | Authors: | Götz, Diego COVINO, Stefano |
Issue Date: | 2017 | Volume: | New Frontiers in Black Hole Astrophysics | Editors: | Gomboc, Andreja | Series: | PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION | Number: | vol. 12, S324 | First Page: | 54 | Abstract: | We review the current observational and theoretical status of the polarization measurements of Gamma-ray Bursts at all wavelengths. Gamma-Ray Bursts are thought to be produced by an ultra-relativistic jet, possibly powered by a black hole. One of the most important open point is the composition of the jet: the energy may be carried out from the central source either as kinetic energy (of baryons and/or pairs), or in electromagnetic form (Poynting flux). The polarization properties are expected to help disentangling main energy carrier. The prompt emission and afterglow polarization are also a powerful diagnostic of the jet geometry. | Conference Name: | New Frontiers in Black-Hole Astrophysics | Conference Place: | Ljubljana, Slovenia | Conference Date: | 12-16 September, 2016 | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12386/27069 | URL: | https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/proceedings-of-the-international-astronomical-union/article/gammaray-bursts-polarization/5E5870B05747C334D7253D56132627E2 | ISSN: | 1743-9213 | ISBN: | 978-1-107-16994-4 | DOI: | 10.1017/S1743921317002010 | Bibcode ADS: | 2017IAUS..324...54G | Fulltext: | open |
