Abstract
The aim of this Technical Note is to provide the URD (User Requirement Document)
necessary to develop the AREMBES Simulator Framework (ASF). This TN is the issue 1
since both the evolution of the ATHENA instruments/satellite, the translation of the
requirements towards the developers, and the feedbacks from the developers could modify
the Reqs. here reported, then recovery action could be put in place. But a first preliminary set
of requirements is mandatory to start the simulator development work.
This set is divided in:
- Essentials (E)
- Goals (G)
in order to establish with the developers a constructive work aimed at providing to ESA the
as best as possible simulator.
Further, as reported in [RD1] the ASF will be based on the CIRSOS structure. Thus, to
provide a more effective URD we will also report common requirements considered useful to
be used inside the ASF.
As requested from the AREMBES SoW [RD2], we have also asked to the ATHENA
community inputs that we have here reported. A strong feedback has been recorded on the
ASF asking for several integration of functions enabling the simulation of effect of particles
also on readout (SQuID, wiring, etc.), and a sort of integration/development of the ASF in the
context of the ATHENA activities.
The work performed in WP1, WP2, WP3 and WP4 is essential in the context of ATHENA,
and their outputs have addressed the editing of this URD. In brief:
1. detailed knowledge of the physical processes inducing background
2. detailed knowledge, and reproduction, of detectors neighborhood
3. best estimate of the L2 particle environment
4. Geant4 physics list tailored to ATHENA
Before to provide the list of UR, we will briefly discuss the “application scenario” in order to
better frame how the UR will address the development of the simulator.
